You’ve no doubt heard of the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, but you might not know there’s an equally fantastic Fringe now taking place in Stirling each year. Dreamed up in 2013 and put on by a mind-blowingly tiny group of volunteers, Stirling Fringe turned out to be such a success that it’s been growing in size and popularity ever since.
This time around, the 2015 Stirling Fringe Festival will once again welcome the most eclectic mix of artists and performers to the area for a ten-day showcase of pure entertainment. As a non-profit event where anyone can take part, the whole point of Fringe is to give artists and performers with every imaginable talent the chance to take to the stage and show the world what they can do. All proceeds go to good causes and the event is set up and run by volunteers – there’s really never been a more enjoyable way of doing your bit!
An Eclectic Mix
This year’s Stirling Fringe Festival is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 26, during which time dozens of performers will descend on over 20 key venues in and around Stirling. There may be a few in there you’ve heard of, but chances are it’ll largely be new territory no matter who you head out to see and this really is the beauty of the Fringe. You try something new and hopefully find something you like – all for the lowest ticket prices possible.
In terms of what’s on, really anything you can imagine by way of performing arts and entertainment will be there in spades. From comedy to opera to spoken word to rock music to magic to theatre and so many international entries that fall under no genre in any way, it’s impossible to leave the Fringe without feeling you’ve had your horizons expanded. Even if the show you catch isn’t to your taste, you’ll still find yourself entertained and coming back for more.
Of course, the impact the festival has had on budding talent from across the local community has also been huge. The organisers of the Fringe are committed to giving up and coming newbies the opportunity to rub shoulders with established performers from all over the world and perform on the very same stages. The Stirling Fringe issues an open invite to one and all with the desire to perform and something to share – quite the oppose of most established festivals.
