A Family’s Guide to Leisure in Dunblane

A Family’s Guide to Leisure in Dunblane

Although Dunblane is a fairly small town, the surrounding area is rich in history, scenery and things to do.  The mix of historic landmarks and local attractions with outdoor activities makes it the perfect family destination, as there’s something for everyone.

The only problem you might run into is that there are too many great family activities to choose from! We’ve created the family’s guide to leisure in Dunblane to help make trip planning even easier.

Perfect for younger children, the Active Kids Adventure Park offers a host of outdoor and indoor activities. There are trampolines, climbing frames, and giant slides for the more adventurous children, and the indoor area boasts soft climbing and bouncing. Mum and dad can hang out in the café, where there are delicious homemade baked goods, tea and coffee.

Although Drummond Castle is not open to the public, the magnificent surrounding gardens are. First built in 1490 by John, 1st Lord Drummond, the gardens are a beautiful mixture of 17th century Scottish renaissance and 19th century design. It’s the picture-perfect place to take a leisurely stroll with the entire family, and it will serve as a beautiful backdrop for family photos.

Located a short 15-minute drive from the hotel, your kids will absolutely love the Briarlands Farm Park. In addition to feeding farm animals, kids can also drive tractors, play on mini golf carts, and enjoy many other outdoor activities.

You can’t come to Dunblane without experiencing some of the local history.  The incredible Stirling Castle offers fun for the whole family. Kids can choose between a number of activities designed just for them, including the History Hunters Children’s Tour and a chance to meet the characters of the Royal Stewart Court. Parents and children alike can also enjoy tours of the palace, great hall and castle gardens.

Cycling is one of the best ways to experience all the best scenery Dunblane has to offer. Hire a bike from Wheelers Cycling, and you can cycle to Stirling Castle, Loch Katrine or – if you’re up for it – go further afield to Edinburgh or Aberfoyle. Pack a picnic and it can be the perfect all day outing for the family. If you need help planning out your route, just ask at reception and we’ll get you on your way.

The Knockhill Racing Circuit is a great choice for the adventurous family seeking an adrenaline rush. They have kids karting (available to kids aged 12+) and adults can drive, race cars, rally cars, and luxury cars, like Aston Martins and Ferraris.  This is a can’t-miss-it experience for families with older children.

Whether you’re an expert or novice rider, Castle Rednock Trekking offers guided horse tours of the scenic countryside within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Luckily, children as young as four can ride a horse, and there’s even the opportunity for one-on-one supervision if needed.  Families are also welcome to experience Shetland driving, where you can experience the countryside from the comfort of a carriage.

Also, staying at the Hilton Dunblane Hydro with your children is a perfect choice, as children under 5 eat for free under the kid’s menu. For more help planning your family holiday, we have a list of all the best attractions in Dunblane.
