Stirling Fringe Festival

Stirling Fringe Festival

The Stirling Fringe Festival began in 2013 and this year has re-launched as The Shindig – the Best Wee Party in Scotland. With a new residency in Stirling Old Town Jail, the festival takes place from 9th to 11th September 2016.

The jail yard at the event will host live music and comedy performances, ceilidhs and pipe bands, storytelling events, street performers, an acoustic music stage and a range of street food and beer tastings.

What’s On

The festival will kick off on Friday 9th September with live stand-up from Des Clarke, Raymond Mearns, David Kay and Daisy Earl. Other exciting events include the Jail Yard Party on the open air stage with top up-and-coming DJs getting the party started.

Saturday 10th September sees acts from all genres of music take to the Europa stage, including blues, rock, country and more. During the day, hang out in the Acoustic Zone to hear laid-back performances, sample some local beers from the Harviestoun beer experts, or enjoy hilarity from high-energy improve comedy troupe, Men with Coconuts. Finish the night off at the family ceilidh and be sure to dance your socks off.

On Sunday, take the kids to Boogie Beat where pre-school children can dance, sing and laugh along to some silly monkeys. For children (and adults) a little older, head to the Grim(m) Tales performance, a live storytelling event full of Brothers Grimm fairy tales. In the afternoon, take in some provocative spoken word poetry performances from an eclectic range of voices, or catch a screening of charming Scottish film, Gregory’s Girl.

Tickets for individual events range from free entry to up to £12. View the fringe website for more details.

Staying for the weekend

The Stirling Old Town Jail is a 15-minute drive along the M9 from DoubleTree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro, or a 40-minute train journey from Dunblane Station.

If you’re visiting Stirling for the entire Fringe Festival, avoid the hustle and bustle of the town by staying 15 minutes’ away in Dunblane. Surround yourself with beautiful Perthshire countryside and enjoy delicious dining from celebrity chef Nick Nairn, pamper treatments in our spa or a quiet dram on the terrace of our bars and lounges.
