A Woman’s Guide to Leisure in Dunblane

A Woman’s Guide to Leisure in Dunblane

Here at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro, we’re often asked for our own expert recommendations when it comes to entertaining female-only groups looking for the most fun the region has to offer. We’re a firm favourite for birthdays, elegant hen parties, corporate events and group outings of all kinds, offering a combination of sublimely luxurious accommodation and easy access to the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

So, when heading to this glorious corner of the country with the girls, what kinds of opportunities for fun and games do we have right on our doorstep?

Cycling

Well, first of all there’s really no better way to take in the beauty of the area and the beauty of the Scottish springtime than by heading out by bike. Pack a picnic, grab a map and head out on a voyage of discovery the likes of which is guaranteed to win over every member of your group. Doune and it’s castle are unmissable, you’re just a short hop from Stirling or if you really fancy going for it, you could always cycle all the way to Loch Katrine – it’s really not that far from us!

The Trossachs, Duke's Pass & Loch Katrine

If you’d prefer to head out by car to find that perfect corner in which to unwind, make your way to Callander and Aberfoyle, around the Lake of Menteith and over the Duke's pass. You’ll enjoy the most stunning views imaginable over the Loch Katrine, Lock Achray and Loch Venachar where you’ll have the opportunity to take a steam ship cruise and rediscover the meaning of tranquillity.

Horse Riding & Trekking

You won’t need even a day’s experience to enjoy some of the finest horse riding and trekking opportunities on offer in the UK today. This is the kind of group experience than transcends all the usual barriers of age, taste, gender and so on – the joy of taking in the majesty of the Scottish Highlands by horseback is quite simply beyond compare. And of course, there’s absolutely no better time to do exactly that than during the spring.

Shopping In Stirling

By bike, bus or any means of transport necessary, Stirling is more than worth a visit for a plethora of reasons. One fantastic excuse to visit Stirling is for a spot of retail therapy, with dozens of unique boutique shops waiting to be explored along with the sizeable Thistle Centre where you’ll find the more commercial brands and chain stores.

Nick Nairn Cook School

That’s right, our very own Michelin star-winning celebrity chef Nick Nairn also runs a cooking school where no matter what level you’re at…or at least think you’re at…you’re guaranteed to pick up a few life-changing pointers. If you love food, you’d simply adore this experience.

Distillery Tours

Last but not least, it would be an absolute crime to head to Dunblane without taking in the sights of at least one working distillery. Scotland’s most famous global export comes to life right before your eyes and once you’ve taken in the sights, smells and sounds of a working distillery, you’ll never look at whisky the same way again. And of course, tasting sessions generally come as standard.
